With 8.1 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom, the Panasonic Lumix DMC LS85 is very much a budget digital camera for a beginner photographer that enjoys point and shoot operation.
The Lumix DMC LS85 features an easy-to-use intelligent auto mode featured on many Panasonic compact digital cameras. Simply press the IA button, and the camera will automatically optimise several camera settings based on the particular shooting environment, for perfect images without the hassle. Blur, focus and brightness problems are all corrected, together with the optical image stabiliser reducing the effects of hand-shake. This all happens automatically, the instant you press the shoot button.
As with other Lumix models from Panasonic, the DMC LS85 features a high resolution 230,000 dots 2.5 inch LCD which adjusts its brightness depending on ambient light intensity. This is to reduce unwanted battery usage when light levels are low, together with ensuring visibility of the LCD during bright conditions.
Being a budget compact, the Panasonic Lumix DMC LS85 doesn't use lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and therefore you don't get a battery charger included. Instead you'll have to stock up on standard AA batteries, the DMCLS85 takes two at a time and should last around 300 shots depending on the exact type of AA you use.
The Lumix DMC LS85 does let you record video as well as still images. There are three settings including: VGA: 640 x 480 pixels at 30fps, QVGA: 320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps and WVGA: 848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps.
Apologies for the non-English video review below, but hopefully it still gives you an idea of the look and feel of the DMCLS85.
